South China Normal University admitted its first batch of undergraduate students in Computer Science in 1983, established the Department of Computer Science in January 1986, and founded the School of Computer Science in January 2005.
Looking back, the entire faculty and staff within the school have worked hand in hand with vigor and determination, leading to significant development in all aspects of the school. It boasts a comprehensive talent cultivation system ranging from undergraduate to doctoral (post-doctoral) levels, including a doctoral program and a post-doctoral research station in Software Engineering, a master's program in Computer Science and Technology, and a professional master's degree authorization point in Electronic Information. It also offers undergraduate majors in Computer Science and Technology (both teacher-training and non-teacher-training), Network Engineering, and more.
The school values the comprehensive development and personalized growth of students, and the enhancement of their future competitiveness. It focuses on the cultivation of students' scientific research and innovative capabilities, deepens the integration between industry and education in a collaborative mechanism for talent training, and constructs a comprehensive education and talent training environment that balances theory and practice, and blends innovation with practice.
The college has a team of enthusiastic, professionally proficient, and creative faculty members. They are the transmitters of knowledge, guides on the path to dreams, and companions in cooperation. At the same time, the school has also launched joint research projects, and talent training and exchange cooperation with many universities (departments), jointly exploring the cutting-edge fields in computer science.

·Department of Computer Science and Technology
The major of computer science and technology enrolled the first undergraduate students in 1983, the department of computer science was established in January 1986, and the school of computer science was established in January 2005. This major has master-level graduate student training base of first-level degree for computer science and technology and was authorized degree of electronic information engineering (computer technology, software engineering, artificial intelligence, big data technology and engineering, etc.); post-doctoral research station of software engineering and first-level degree of software engineering for PhD students. At the same time, the computer science and technology is the national first-class undergraduate major construction base, the first batch of IT famous brand majors and provincial characteristic majors in Guangdong Province.
The department of computer science and technology has more than 30 staffs, 24 professors and associate professors, and more than 800 students in school. Among the teachers, there are the winners of national and provincial major talent projects, Baosteel Education Award, Ding Ying Technology Award, CCF-Tencent Rhino Bird Fund winners, etc. Many teachers hold important academic positions in international and domestic academic organizations (academic conferences, journals, professional societies, etc.).
The major of computer science and technology focuses on computer software and theory, graphics and image processing, data analysis and intelligent application. The typical characteristics of this major are the teaching promotion strategies with scientific research, the educational methods leveraging experiments, practices and competitions. These strategies and methods inspire the passions, interests of the students for logical thinking, computing thinking, systematic thinking, engineering thinking, build the practice teaching system, in-class experiment-independent experiment-course design, practice, graduation design, innovative entrepreneurial practice/science and education synergy.
·Department of Network and Information Security
The department is built upon a foundation of diverse research platforms, including the Guangdong Engineering Technology Research Center of Mobile Internet Applications and Security and the Guangzhou Laboratory of Cloud Security and Assessment. While our research encompasses traditional network and information security domains, we also actively explore emerging security technologies and the security implications of novel computing architectures.
Our research priorities include:
· Core Security Technologies: Network and communication security, cryptographic theory and algorithms, data security and privacy, blockchain, and artificial intelligence security.
· Next-Generation Security: Applying network security theory and technology, coupled with advanced cryptographic and privacy-preserving techniques, to address security challenges in emerging applications such as mobile internet, IoT, and AI.
· Public Security and Policy: Conducting fundamental and applied research in public big data security, privacy preservation, network defense, and security regulations.
By leveraging these research areas, our department aims to contribute to the advancement of cybersecurity and protect critical information assets.
·Department of Basic Computer Education
The Department of Basic Computer Education can be traced back to 1981, and for 41 years. Since then, we have developed one of China’s leading teacher training programs in basic computer education, with a highly regarded research team and distinguished faculty. We have trained thousands of graduates, many of whom now play pivotal roles in information technology education across Guangdong Province, while others are making significant contributions on a global scale.
We offer high-quality undergraduate and graduate programs in Computer Science, covering areas such as Artificial Intelligence, Smart Education, FinTech, and Blockchain. Our programs attract top students, equipping them to make meaningful contributions in their respective fields worldwide.
At our department, students receive a world-class education that empowers them to excel across various domains. Our graduates go on to become prominent figures, including school principals and gold medalists in informatics competitions, transforming innovative ideas into real-world achievements.
